why he is both compelling and dangerous and why his understanding of Islam is mistaken...(It starts from his assumption that the first person to describ Islam as a religion of peace was President Bush- in fact Jacques Chirac paralleled this after 9/11, Tony Blair after 7/7, David Cameron after drummer Lee Riby was beheaded and tourists killed in Tunisia; François Hollande said the same after the Charlie Hebdo killings. But the concept predates these politicians: the earliest english documented use of the phrase appears as the title of a 1930 book by Ishtiaq Husain Qureshi, an Indian historian and later vice‑chancellor of the University of Karachi. الإسلام دين السلام is essentially a modern arabic phrase from 20th century or at earliest the 19th century but the idea of Islam as a religion of peace is certainly within the Qu'ran and the hadiths (Qur’an 2:208), Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, and particularly Sunan Ibn Mājah, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim. For a short time in 2012 Robinson was joint Party Vice Chairman of the British Freedom Party. Tommy Robinson has broken his silence and claimed he "defended himself" after being released on bail following his arrest last night.

The 42-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was detained at Luton Airport at 6.25pm yesterday, after boarding an EasyJet flight from Faro Airport in Portugal.

The British Transport Police confirmed earlier today that a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire was released on police bail until September 8 while enquiries continue.

Now, Robinson has taken to social media to speak out for the first time following his bail.

Speaking on X, formerly Twitter, he said: "I've got to be honest, one of the worst week's of my life.

"I was worried, very worried, I thought I was being stitched up."
