ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video, I talk about the 3 things you must do in order to improve your English. The good news is that you can totally do these things by yourself, alone at home. You don't need a teacher to point out every mistake in order to improve. You just need to focus on input, output, and study.
Input is surrounding yourself with the language, creating your own "immersion" experience. This means you can listen to music in English, watch videos in English, read in English, listen to podcasts, etc. This will help your brain absorb the language and become familiar with it.
However, input alone is not enough. You also need output. You need to practice speaking and writing. You need to USE the language. This means you can practice English with a language partner, start a YouTube channel, create a blog-- it doesn't matter! As long as you are consistently communicating in English, you will sharpen your ability to use the language.
And finally, you need study. If you only consume English and use it, without actually looking into your weaknesses and how you can improve the language, it's very likely that your will plateau. You will stop improving. If you want to avoid this, you need to constantly be analyzing your English and how you can improve it. What sounds can you improve when you speak? What grammar constructions can you practice and improve? What new words are you learning around you?
I highly recommend that you keep track of what you learn and review it frequently if you want to improve your English. You can write in a journal by hand or use online tools. Personally, I really like Instagram for keeping track of progress, because you can add images that will help you remember what you learned and then write a unique description. You can explain what it is you learned, how you learned it, etc. Then, whenever you are bored, you can scroll through your account to review new words, phrases, etc.
In this video I also talk about my English and Spanish. I'm a native English speaker, but I'm also fluent in Spanish. However, my Spanish has definitely plateaued. I don't actively seek to improve it because I reached the level I wanted and my Spanish is good enough for me to use it in the ways that I want. This is also something for you to consider... how good does your English need to be in order for you to reach your goals?
I hope you enjoyed this video and learned something new! It's good to be back, and I can't wait to make another video for everyone here.
Talk soon!
